St. Louis Cardinals at Arizona Diamondbacks Betting Preview: The St. Louis Cardinals will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday in the first of a four game series. The St. Louis Cardinals come into the affair with a 27-22 record, which is good enough for first place in the National League Central. The Cardinals lead over the Cubs is just ½ game following St. Louis dropping 4 out of 6 games. For Arizona, they have dropped 10 straight games, and are now 18-32 on the season. The Diamondbacks are in last place in the National League West. The Diamondbacks are small favorites in this game at -110 over St. Louis.

Martinez Takes the Hill

Carlos Martinez was sharp in his last outing against the Chicago Cubs. Martinez went 6 innings, allowing 4 its and 2 earned runs, while striking out 2 batters. On the season, the 29 year old sits with a 3-4 record, and a 4.18 earned run average. Over 47.1 innings this season, Martinez has only struck out 24 batters, which is alarming for the St. Louis staff.

Paul Goldschmidt gets the chance to take on his former team in Arizona. Goldschmidt has recorded 188 at bats this season, and cracked 6 homeruns and 10 doubles on the season. Goldschmidt is in the middle of the order along with Nolan Arenado. The former Rockies slugger leads the team with both 10 homeruns and 16 doubles, while also driving in 32 runs. Goldschmidt is second on the team with 26 runs batted in.

In the win on Wednesday over the White Sox, Tommy Edman cracked two homeruns. He now has 4 on the season batting leadoff for St. Louis.

Arizona Big Time Hurting

The Arizona Diamondbacks have dropped 10 straight games dating back to te 11-4 win on May 15th over Washington. During that losing streak, the Diamondbacks are scoring just 2 runs per game. The offense has been held to 3 or less runs in 8 out of those 10 games. Overall, Arizona is 15th in the league with 4.3 runs per game, mostly due to a hot start to the season. The Diamondbacks pitching has not been any better, as they are allowing 5.3 runs per game, and 9 hits per game.

Matt Peacock is going to get the start in this game for the Diamondbacks. Peacock has recorded 22 innings this season, and struck out 15 batters, while walking just a pair. The 27 year old from Alabama is in his rookie season with the Diamondbacks and making just his third start of the season. His most recent start was at the Dodgers, where he went 5.1 innings, and allowed 4 hiters and a run.

Another guy facing his former team in this game will be catcher Carson Kelly. Kelly has been the top hitter for Arizona thus far in 2021. Kelly leads the team with a .318 batting average, and has also hit 6 homeruns. The top homerun hitter for Arizona is Eduardo Escobar with 12.

Stay Streaking

It’s hard to imagine a Major League Baseball team lose 11 straight games, but that’s what’s going to happen late in the desert. The Diamondbacks are doing nothing right, and St. Louis wants to even up their road trip. The Cardinals know they have the Dodgers next, so grabbing wins now is going to be pretty important. Look for St. Louis to get the bats going on the road and come away with a win.

Carlos Martinez also pitches well and gets back to .500, and moves his ERA under 4.00 on the season. The Cardinals win this game. Bet St. Louis +105 over Arizona on Thursday.
