Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks Prediction
The WNBA match scheduled for Thursday night is Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks. Both teams will be looking to get back on track, but the Sparks were dealt with a tough blow yesterday, as star forward Nneka Ogwumike is set to miss the action.
Fever In a Good Spot
Indiana has gotten off to a rough, slow start this season. The Fever opened the year with a pair of losses to Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty, then tough losses to the Connecticut Sun and the Atlanta Dream followed. Indiana would get their first win when they defeated an Elena Della-Donne-less Washington Mystics team in the first of a back-to-back, but Tina Charles would get revenge in the second matchup and hand Indiana their fourth loss.
The Fever are led by the inside-outside pairing of Kelsey Mitchell and Teaira McCowan. Mitchell leads the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game, and she scored 18 in the victory over Washington. McCowan averages 10.3 ppg, and she’s recorded four double-doubles so far this season. Newcomer Danielle Robinson runs the offense, and she’s averaging 9.1 ppg and leads the Fever in assists (3.5). They have a good chance to steal a victory tonight if these three can get the offense going.
Los Angeles (2-3) was just about to build some momentum after picking up a pair of road wins over the Chicago Sky, but they were hit with some unfortunate news. Team captain Nneka Ogwumike is slated to miss 4-6 weeks of action after suffering a Grade 2 left knee sprain in the loss to Dallas.
This is a season-altering loss, as the Sparks are set to be without their best player for a month. Without Ogwumike, the Sparks will enter at a disadvantage. The former WNBA MVP was averaging 16.4 ppg and 7.1 rpg, while shooting 58.6% from the field. Los Angeles ranks near the bottom in every offensive category, so this injury leaves them really vulnerable right now. LA will lean a bit more on Nia Coffey and Erica Wheeler offensively. Both veterans are in their first year with the Sparks, and they average 10.1 and 9.2 ppg, respectfully.
Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks – Players to Watch
With both Ogwumike’s out, someone will have to carry the load for Derek Fisher’s team. Coffey is on her fourth team, but she’s averaging a career-high this season.
The former Ohio State Buckeye leads the Fever in scoring, and a big game from her tonight could lead to an upset.
Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks Prediction & Pick
At 1-8, it’d be tough to get behind the Indiana Fever but the injuries to Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike may be too much for the Sparks to overcome. The Fever isn’t the sharpest team offensively, but with Los Angeles missing the heartbeat and about 40% of production, tonight may be Indiana’s night. Take the underdog, and bet on the Indiana Fever to defeat the Los Angeles Sparks.
