Premier League January Transfer Window Rumors

by Dan MoranDecember 27, 2022

After a draining World Cup run, Premier League teams are looking for reinforcements as the focus returns to club football. Premier League teams are focused on replenishing their rosters with new contracts and loans to ride through to the end of the season in May 2023.

Let’s look at clubs looking to contend for a spot in Europe and how they plan to strengthen their Premier League rosters.

Liverpool Active in Rumors

After a rocky start to the Premier League campaign, the Reds are looking to add some more firepower to their roster to go on a run in the second half of the season and qualify for a Champions League spot.

As of 3:30 PM Central Standard Time on December 27th, 2022, Twitter rumors state that Dutch international Cody Gakpo will be signing a six-year contract with Liverpool when the window opens on January 1st. It’s a shocking announcement, given that rival Manchester United has been engaged with Gakpo’s camp for months.

The other big target the Reds are after is England international Jude Bellingham. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has suitors from Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid inquiring about his services. It will be interesting to see what other options become available if Bellingham departs.

Arsenal: Keeping the Pressure Up at the Top of the Table

The Gunners are off to a fantastic start to the campaign. They have collected 40 points through 15 games, and have given up the 2nd fewest goals in the Premier League.

One of their top priorities in the transfer window will be finding a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. The former Manchester City striker is out for three to four months after enduring a serious knee injury during the World Cup in Qatar.

The Gunners have been linked to Mykhaylo Mudryk, the striker from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian club has been asking for an extremely high price – almost 100 million euros. They are also in the conversation for Joao Felix from Athletico Madrid.

Manchester United: Another Disappointing Window?

Red Devil supporters feel frequent frustration with their ownership during transfer windows. After Monday’s shocking news of Liverpool snatching Cody Gakpo away, United has moved on to backup targets like Goncalo Ramos. The team’s primary need is filling a missing spot at striker, after the cancellation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Towards the end of the World Cup, there were rumors flying that USMNT talisman Christian Pulisic was linked to a loan move to Manchester United. Those rumors have slowed down as we get closer to January. Given the club’s luck competing for transfers, they might be better off targeting lower-risk moves like player loans.
