Ravens vs. Raiders Predictions and Football Odds for Week 1

by Abhishek KundaliaSeptember 12, 2021
  • Ravens battling severe injuries
  • Newly acquired Raiders RB Chase Edmonds looks to make an impact
  • Can Lamar Jackson handle the load for the entire offense?

The long-awaited first week of the National Football League is here! On Monday at 8:15 PM ET, the Las Vegas Raiders will host the Baltimore Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Ravens, who went undefeated in the preseason, look to continue that streak with former Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson under center.

Conversely, the Raiders look for their third win with quarterback Derek Carr under center as they went 2-1 in the preseason. Both teams are scoring machines and will look to put as many points on the board in an effort to outscore the other.

Baltimore Ravens Team Preview

After a very above-average season last year where the Baltimore Ravens lost in the Divisional Round of the 2020-2021 NFL playoffs, the Ravens hope to make a further run this year behind Pro-Bowl quarterback Lamar Jackson. However, for Week 1, the Ravens face many setbacks in comparison to last year. This year there are significant injury concerns for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens’ first, second, and third-string running backs all face season-ending injuries.

JK Dobbins predicted to have an amazing sophomore season, suffered a torn ACL in practice. Gus Edwards, the second man up, also tore his ACL, and finally, Justice Hill suffered a torn achilles.

Ravens vs. Raiders Predictions and Football Odds for Week 1

Though the Ravens did sign running backs Le’Veon Bell and undrafted back Tyson Williams, the loss of the three backs will cause a detriment to the Ravens backfield. Furthermore, rookie receiver Rashod Bateman and receiver Miles Boykin are all placed on IR after being injured too. The Ravens seem to be very dismantled with injury, and this is definitely a cause for concern.

Las Vegas Raiders Team Preview

The Las Vegas Raiders, on the other hand, are coming off an average season, sitting at the .500 mark with an 8-8 schedule, ending 2nd in the AFC West. This off-season, the Raiders made many smart moves to help Derek Carr and the offense become more successful. Free-agent receiver John Brown, receiver Zay Jones, and running back Kenyan Drake all were added to boost the offensive production.

The Raiders also drafted offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood from Alabama with the 17th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. On the defensive side, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, linebacker Nicholas Morrow, and tackle Solomon Thomas were added. All in all, the Raiders are projected to have a very solid season as they acquired many valuable free agents, and they retained many key players: Darren Waller, Derek Carr, and Josh Jacobs.

The Bet

Though the Ravens are listed as four-point favorites for this exciting Week 1 matchup, I believe that the injuries will catch up to them, and Lamar Jackson will suffer under the immense pressure. Therefore, I have the Las Vegas Raiders covering the 4 point spread.

This matchup between these two AFC teams will come to the wire; however, I still have the Ravens winning the matchup at the end of the day. Therefore, I have the Baltimore Ravens -230 for the MoneyLine. And as for the total, I believe this game will be more of a defensive showdown than offensive; therefore, I predict the under -110.

The Picks

  • Spread: LV +4
  • MoneyLine: BAL -230
  • Total: Under -110
