Jaguars vs Texans Prediction & Football Odds for Week 1

by Allyson ParkSeptember 6, 2021
  • Easy start for Trevor Lawrence
  • Tyrod Taylor to start for the Texans
  • Jaguars vs Texans Prediction: Jaguars have the advantage

Football is finally, officially back in full swing! On Sunday at 1pm EST, the Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans for their first game of the 2021 NFL regular season.

The Jaguars, led by Trevor Lawrence, hope to capitalize off their preseason roster changes and start off their regular season strong. The Texans, who will be playing without Deshaun Watson, have a much lower chance of winning their first game, but they will certainly bring the energy for Week 1

Jaguars vs Texans Prediction: Spread

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently 3-point favorites to defeat the Houston Texans. Despite going 1-2 in this year’s preseason, the Jaguars are poised for a great regular season, with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence leading their offense. They had a high-scoring preseason, combining for 68 points in all three games.

After making some adjustments in anticipation of the first regular-season game, the Jaguars will probably start off their season strong with a lot of scoring. I would bet the Jaguars to cover the spread for this game!

Jaguars vs Texans Prediction: MoneyLine

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set up for a promising regular season, with number one draft pick Trevor Lawrence itching for playing time and success. After going 1-2 in the preseason, they made some roster changes, tweaks, and adjustments to improve in the regular season. They will have the chance to test all the changes they made when they take on the Houston Texans in Week 1 of the regular season.

The Texans have not been a formidable opponent for a long time, and the Jaguars’ chances of winning have been increased due to the fact that Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson will not be playing in this matchup. Houston has opted to play Tyrod Taylor for their first game, as Watson is in the center of a huge sexual assault scandal, having been accused by multiple women.

After a decent couple of performances in the preseason, Trevor Lawrence will have his first real test to prove that he is the kind of quarterback the Jaguars need and traded for. He has a lot of solid options with receivers like Marvin Jones and DJ Chark on his offense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars certainly have the upper hand in this matchup, and I’m looking forward to watching Trevor Lawrence in his NFL regular-season debut.

Free Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars -150

Jaguars vs Texans Prediction: Total

The total for this game is decently high, at 45 points. While I am confident in the Jaguars’ ability to win this game, I don’t really think that they will blow the Texans out of the water by 30 points. I also don’t think Houston has the offensive power to contribute 20 points to get the over. I think that the best option is to bet the under for this game.

Free Prediction: Under -115
