Jaguars vs Cowboys Prediction & NFL Odds for Preseason Week 3

by Vincent PensabeneAugust 26, 2021

The Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on the Dallas Cowboys. The Jaguars are 0-2 in the preseason as they are coming off a road loss to the New Orleans Saints last week 23-21 while the Cowboys are 0-3 and are coming off a losing effort against the Houston Texans 20-14. It will be interesting to see how these teams attack their preseason finale.

  • Gardner Minshew II will have a good outing
  • Dallas Cowboys will not have an interception
  • Dallas Cowboys cover the spread

The starters could potentially be sitting out of this game as this preseason has been more of that than starters playing on the field. Neither team has really played well this preseason and I would go with the veteran NFL coach over a collegiate coach making the jump. Gardner Minshew is going to play a good chunk as the backup QB and this will be his chance to get his trade value up.

Dallas has been turning the ball over as Ben DiNucci is the only quarterback on the roster that has thrown an interception during a preseason game this season and has thrown a total of four. However, this is arguably the weakest defense the Cowboys have faced and should be a chance for them to take control of the offense and march down the field without giving up the football.

Betting Odds & Lines for This Game

Jaguars vs Cowboys Prediction: Spread

Moving on with our Jaguars vs Cowboys prediction, let’s talk spread! The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to place their starters under bubble wrap as they have already lost rookie running back Travis Etienne due to a Lisfranc injury. That means running back James Robinson is going to be the starter for a second season and he will not see the field much, if at all here.

The Dallas Cowboys could decide to let quarterback Dak Prescott play in this game for his first game action since Week 5 last year where he suffered a season-ending ankle injury. With wide reciever CeeDee Lamb, left guard Connor Williams, and safety Malik Hooker being out on the COVID-19 injured list, they still have the better roster. With Prescott potentially getting some snaps here, the Cowboys have to be the favorites and should win easily here.

Jaguars vs Cowboys Prediction: MoneyLine

The Jacksonville Jaguars have to figure out how their offense is going to shift with the absence of running back Travis Etienne. He was ready to take the load of the carries and be a decent receiver but now could potentially be missing the entire 2021 NFL season. Their defense has not strengthened up enough during the offseason, especially with OLB Josh Allen potentially missing this game due to COVID-19.

NFL Preseason Bets Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys have a better offense and could have Dak Prescott on the field, but even if he is on the sidelines, the Cowboys are the better team overall. Jacksonville cannot cover both Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, plus remember that the Cowboys have Ezekiel Elliott running the ball. Jacksonville’s defense isn’t going to hold up here.

Jaguars vs Cowboys Prediction: Total

Despite being the better team, the Dallas Cowboys are averaging 11 points per game in the preseason. Looking at the Jacksonville Jaguars, they are only averaging 16 points per game. I don’t understand where the total points are as high as it is but I will take any extra cushion that they are willing to give us. All in all, go with the UNDER as these offenses could be limited here and aren’t scoring enough to sniff the over here.
