Falcons vs Football Team Prediction & NFL Odds for Week 4

by Allyson ParkSeptember 29, 2021
  • Can Taylor Heinicke step it up?
  • Washington’s defense needs to make some changes
  • Atlanta does not look threatening for Washington’s offense

In the fourth week of the NFL regular season, the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) host the Washington Football Team (1-2) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday at 1 pm EST

Both these teams are hoping to even their record to 2-2 on Sunday. The Falcons are entering this game off the heels off a 17-14 win against the New York Giants. On the other hand, Washington is looking to bounce back after a sloppy 21-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Betting Odds & Lines for This Game

  • Spread: ATL +1.5 (-110) | WAS -1.5 (-110)
  • MoneyLine: ATL (+105) | WAS (-125)
  • Total: 47.5 — Over (-110) | Under (-110)

Falcons vs Football Team Prediction: Spread

While I expect this will be a decently close game, I would bet the Washington Football Team to cover the spread. They are currently 1.5 favorites against the Atlanta Falcons, and my prediction is Washington will win by seven points. Even in close games, covering a 1.5-point spread is usually no problem, so bet Washington to cover the spread.

Falcons vs Football Team Prediction: MoneyLine

While both these teams have identical records, I think that Washington will come out on top in this Week 4 matchup. After getting stomped by the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, Washington needs to bounce back quickly, and since the Falcons have been struggling lately, this may be the perfect rebound game for them.

My biggest concern for the Washington Football Team is their defense. This is strange, especially considering that coming into this season, Washington’s defense was considered their strongest asset. They have been unable to come through in these regular-season games, doing too little far too late and barely making an impact on the outcome of the game.

Washington’s offense, despite having a 1-2 record, has been performing well, with minor issues regarding red zone performance and their running game. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke, while he has proved to be a strong player, will have to step it up this week if he hopes to lead Washington to a second victory.

The Atlanta Falcons haven’t exactly started off their season well. They got demolished in their first two games, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 6-32 and to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25-48 in Week 2. On Sunday, they got their first win of the season against the New York Giants, winning by a field goal.

When it comes right down to it, I don’t think the Falcons defense will be able to hold Heinicke and Washington’s offense back at all. This is a pivotal game for Washington, it’s either even their record to 2-2 or fall to an embarrassing 1-3. I also expect Washington to start off this game strong, fixing small issues in their offense and defense to improve upon last week’s performance.

Falcons vs Football Team Prediction: Total

The total for this game is 47.5 points. The oddsmakers are undecided for this game, but I think that the over is a safe bet. Both teams’ defenses have not been great so far, especially with passing defense, so I expect the points to be pretty high for this game.
