Colts vs Seahawks Prediction & Football Odds for Week 1

by Allyson ParkSeptember 8, 2021
  • Carson Wentz is expected to start
  • Russell Wilson inconsistent?
  • Seahawks aim to lessen mistakes

The first week of the NFL regular season is finally here! On Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts host the Seattle Seahawks at Lucas Oil Stadium at 1pm EST for their very first regular season game. The Colts, who went undefeated in the preseason, hope to start Carson Wentz and edge out a win against Seattle. On the other hand, the Seahawks, who had a significantly less successful preseason, aim to lessen their defensive mistakes and utilize Russell Wilson to win over Indianapolis.

Colts vs Seahawks Prediction: Spread

I honestly think that this is going to be a close game, with both the Colts and Seahawks making adjustments and trying to start off their first regular season game strong. That being said, I think the Seahawks are slight favorites for this one, and since the spread only 2.5 points, they should be able to cover it on Sunday.

Colts vs Seahawks Prediction: MoneyLine

There is a lot influencing this very first regular season game for the Colts and Seahawks. Though it will most likely be a very close game, I certainly think that the Seahawks will manage to edge out the win.

The biggest disadvantage that the Colts have is Carson Wentz. Based on reports from practices, it seems like Wentz is on track to start on Sunday, despite recovering from foot surgery and being forced to quarantine following a close contact Covid-19 exposure. Even if Wentz is able to start, it is unlikely that he will be completely in sync and at 100 percent ability. On top of all that, if Wentz re-injures himself or gets exposed again (he is not vaccinated,) the Colts are, to put it simply, doomed. Unvaccinated players are a huge liability to NFL teams, as it is harder to rely on them.

Wentz has been an inconsistent player for a long time, and I genuinely don’t think the Colts can put their trust in him, especially since he is currently injured and unvaccinated. This is the main reason why I’m taking the Seahawks for this Week 1 matchup, if Wentz performs well, I will be completely shocked.

Colts vs Seahawks Prediction & Football Odds for Week 1

The quarterback performance in Seattle should be a little bit better. Russell Wilson, a seasoned veteran, will be starting for Week 1. Wilson has proved himself to be a solid quarterback, but he also goes through spells where he underperforms. In 2020, he averaged about 300 passing yards per game, and this season, he should be able to start off strong.

Mistakes certainly plagued the Seahawks throughout the preseason, and their goal going into the regular season will be to keep their mistakes to a minimum and let their defense explode right off the bat. All in all, the Seahawks should be the ones to take this game, as the Colts will be led by a less-than-good Carson Wentz.

  • Free Prediction: Seattle Seahawks -145

Colts vs Seahawks Prediction: Total

The total for this Week 1 game is 49.5 points, which is pretty high. I don’t think that these teams will be able to combine for nearly 50 points on Sunday, given that it is their first regular season game after preseasons that were not really high-scoring. I would bet the under for this Week 1 matchup.
