Chargers vs Football Team Prediction & Football Odds for Week 1

by Allyson ParkSeptember 8, 2021
  • Either team could take this game
  • Washington has great offensive and defensive prospects
  • Chargers

The first week of the 2021 NFL regular season is finally here! On Sunday, at 1 pm EST, the Los Angeles Chargers travel to FedEx Field to take on the Washington Football Team in both teams’ very first regular-season game.

The Chargers, who went 1-2 this preseason, hope to make necessary adjustments to start off the regular season strong. Washington also went 1-2 in the preseason, but they hope that their new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and their young defense will be enough to get them a Week 1 win.

Chargers vs Football Team Prediction: Spread

Even though the Chargers are slight betting favorites for this game, I think that Washington will be the ones to take the win. The spread is only one point, so Washington, if they do win, then they should certainly be able to cover the spread. It will certainly be a really close game, but I would bet Washington to cover the spread.

Chargers vs Football Team Prediction: MoneyLine

This Week 1 matchup is shaping up to be the Los Angeles Chargers’ offense versus the Washington Football Team’s defense. Both these teams’ 2021 rosters are full of young, largely inexperienced players who are eager to make their impact and make their presence known on the football field.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is, to put it simply, a star in the making, and he’s got a slew of healthy receivers and a great running back in Austin Ekeler. In the preseason, Herbert racked up passing yards, but it seems like he still needs to figure out how to remain consistent and protected in the pocket.

On the other side, the Washington Football Team has been slowly growing into a defensive force to be reckoned with, led by young, enthusiastic defensive end Chase Young. Their offensive line is improving, and Ryan Fitzpatrick and Taylor Heineke are two more-than-solid quarterback options. However, if the Football Team hopes to win their first regular-season game, the defense will have to step it up and make big plays to stop Herbert.

This will be a compelling and entertaining game, as it pits one of the NFL’s best young defenses against one of the best prospective young offenses. A lot of oddsmakers see this game as a pick’em, and for good reason. It could go either way.

In my opinion, Washington is the better team with better players, and they should come away with the win in this Week 1 matchup. As long as their defense can step up and slow down Herbert and Ekeler, and as long as their offense can perform better than they did in the preseason, Washington should definitely get the win in this game.

That being said, prepare for a super close nailbiter of a game. Isn’t that what football is all about?

Chargers vs Football Team Prediction: Total

This is going to be really close game, but since Washington has the home advantage and great offensive and defensive prospects, I think they’ll win this game. It will most likely be a decently high-scoring game, and I would bet the over for this Week 1 matchup.
