Buccaneers vs Texans Prediction & NFL Odds for Preseason Week 3

by Vincent PensabeneAugust 26, 2021

Hello and welcome to our in-depth Buccaneers vs Texans prediction!

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to NRG Stadium on Saturday night to take on the Houston Texans in the preseason finale here. The Buccaneers are 0-2 this preseason and are coming off a 34-3 home loss last week against the Tennessee Titans. The Texans are a perfect 2-0 and are coming off a road win over the Dallas Cowboys 20-14. Let’s take a deeper dive into both of these teams and it will be interesting to see where we should be placing our wagers.

  • Tom Brady will play a great game
  • Tampa Bay covers the spread
  • This game is going to be closer than you think

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians did say that the starters will play for at least a half in this game. On the other side, Houston Texans head coach David Culley has not announced how long the starters will play for them. With the Tampa Bay offense having chemistry built-in and a completely new system for Houston, this will definitely be an interesting game.

Betting Odds & Lines for This Game

Buccaneers vs Texans Prediction: Spread

When you have starters announced that they will play for an entire first half and you are the defending Super Bowl Champions, it is difficult to expect much out of the Houston Texans to be able to stop them here.

Tampa has a bit of a layoff between here and their Week 1 matchup against Dallas and getting at least a half of football for their starters means that Tampa Bay should be able to move the ball at will against a weak Texans defense.

Buccaneers vs Texans Prediction Tyrod Taylor

Houston is still implementing a new system under head coach David Culley and having Tyrod Taylor as your starting quarterback and Jeff Driskel to be the backup isn’t great enough to keep up.

I believe the Tampa offense is going to overwhelm the Texans who are giving up just 10.5 points per game against the Packers and Cowboys so far. All in all, go with the four-point spread with the favorites going over on the road.

Buccaneers vs Texans Prediction: MoneyLine

To be completely honest, I don’t understand why this is still at a reasonable moneyline odds when the depth of these teams are nowhere close. I would understand this maybe if it was DeShaun Watson and Tyrod Taylor as the two quarterbacks for the Texans, as both are more-than-capable starting quarterbacks. However, Jeff Driskel isn’t making me worry as he is 2-of-8 for 16 yards in the preseason.

The defense of Tampa Bay is too solid with the rookie linebackers of KJ Britt and Joe Tryon getting decent reps. I think they can force a couple of mistakes and the starters of Tampa can put this game out of reach to the point where Houston cannot compete. Go with TB -180 here before the odds shoot up above -200 and lose any value there.

Buccaneers vs Texans Prediction: Total

These offenses have been clicking. Looking at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the starters are playing at least one half in this game and they have chemistry as the Bucs returned all 22 starters from their Super Bowl win last season. Looking at Houston’s offense, they have had the ability to score the ball well and move it down the field as they are averaging 23 points per game themselves.

Houston has run the ball effectively as well so that means they can use the play-action and continue drives. They are averaging 129.5 rushing yards per game in their first two preseason games. This total is telling us there will be five touchdowns and a field goal scored and that seems likely. Tampa Bay is going to be able to move the ball against a weaker defense so go with the over here.
