Bengals vs Lions Prediction & NFL Odds for Week 6

by Allyson ParkOctober 14, 2021
  • Lions defense is weak
  • Pivotal game for the Bengals
  • Are the Bengals the better team?

In the sixth week of the NFL season, the Cincinnati Bengals (3-2) travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions (0-5,) with kickoff set for Sunday at 1pm EST.

The Bengals are entering this matchup off the heels of a close 25-22 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers, and they hope to bounce back in this game against a struggling Detroit team. The Lions, on the other hand, are still looking to get their first win of the season. Last Sunday, they fell to their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, in a heartbreaking 17-19 loss.

Betting Odds & Lines for This Game

  • Spread: CIN -3.5 (-110) | DET +3.5 (-110)
  • MoneyLine: CIN (-180) | DET (+155)
  • Total: 48.0 — Over (-110) | Under (-110)

Bengals vs Lions Prediction: Spread

The Cincinnati Bengals are currently -3.5 favorites over the Detroit Lions. I expect them to be able to cover the spread, as the Lions have been struggling in general, but primarily on offense. I think this will be a one-score game, but more likely a touchdown and not a field goal. I would bet the Bengals to cover the spread.

Bengals vs Lions Prediction: MoneyLine

Both the Bengals and the Lions are entering this game after bitter losses in Week 5, and expect a close game from these two struggling teams. Even though the Lions have lost a couple of games they should not have, I would bet the Bengals to pull off a win in Week 6.

It is crucial that the Bengals win this game. The rest of the teams on their schedule will certainly be the favorites in those games. If the Bengals want a semi-easy win, this is one of their last opportunities for one. I think that they will be able to defeat the winless Lions in this game.

The Bengals don’t have the wins to show for it, but they are a team that has the ability to play well, even when they don’t sometimes. Last week, they lost to the Green Bay Packers in overtime by a mere three points. They held their own against Aaron Rodgers and Mason Crosby, which is exceedingly impressive.

The Lions, on the other hand, are still trying to get their first win of the season. A couple of these games have been very close ones, but all in all, the Lions have been both unlucky and a bad football team. Quarterback Jared Goff has been performing horribly, sometimes able to keep Detroit’s hopes alive just to fall apart at the last second. That being said, Goff is not the only one to blame. Detroit’s defense has allowed a combined 138 points this season.

At the end of the day, I don’t think that the Lions have what it takes to win this game. I expect the Bengals to get their fourth win of the season and possibly overtake the Baltimore Ravens for the first place spot in the AFC North.

  • Free Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals -180

Bengals vs Lions Prediction: Total

The total for this game is currently set at 48 points. I’m conflicted on this one, but I would probably bet the over for this game. The Lions’ defense has allowed their opponents to score a lot of points, and given that the Bengals are more than 3-point favorites, I think both teams will combine for over 48 points.

  • Free Prediction: Over -110
