49ers vs Packers Prediction & NFL Odds for Week 3
- Packers defense forces 3 turnovers
- Special Teams TD
- Deebo Samuel Rush TD
Sunday Night Football in Week 3 should continue the tremendous slate of primetime games early on this season. The 2-0 San Francisco 49ers will look to stay perfect as they host Aaron Rodgers and the 1-1 Green Bay Packers. The 49ers have won a pair of 1 score road games to open up the season, while the Packers were on the wrong side of a blowout against the Saints in Week 1 before using a big second half to roll past the Lions last week.
A rematch of the NFC Championship Game just 2 years ago, both teams will be looking for a marquee win in the early stages of the year. It will be strength vs strength, as the fierce 49ers defense will try to match wits with reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The key to this one will be which overlooked unit will be able to make more big-time plays: the 49ers offense, with a decimated RB room, or the Green Bay defense.

49ers vs Packers Prediction: Spread
Coming fresh off only giving up 11 points in a road win against the Philadelphia Eagles, the San Francisco 49ers will look to carry that momentum into their home opener. Jimmy Garoppolo has done enough thus far to help the Niners get off to a 2-0 start, but he will need to step up his game in Week 3 and attempt to go toe to toe with Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers, meanwhile, are coming off a much-needed victory after getting walloped by the Saints in Week 1, 38-3. Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones connected three times for touchdowns in the win against Detroit. Getting Rodgers back on the right track was critical to Green Bay’s success. After a massive wake up call Week 1, the Packers seem to have regained the right mindset and should be able to keep this one plenty close.
Both teams have recorded victories over the Detroit Lions already this year, with the 49ers winning 41-33 on the road in Week 1, and the Packers taking care of business at home 35-17 in Week 2. With the 49ers’ RB room decimated by injury, the pressure will be on former FCS star QB Jimmy Garoppolo to put points up for the 49ers. The Packers will force him into enough mistakes to keep this one close throughout.

49ers vs Packers Prediction: MoneyLine
This game surely will not disappoint, and will most likely come down to the wire. The Packers defense will be the star of the show, giving Rodgers, RB Aaron Jones, and star WR Davante Adams a shorter field a few times. The Packers will take advantage and put pressure on a weakened 49ers offense to play from behind.
While Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will star for the 49ers offense, the defense will fail to force any turnovers. They will get their fair share of stops against Rodgers and company, but Garoppolo and the inexperienced running back room will shoot the team in the foot one too many times. Jimmy G will have a chance at the end to engineer a game tying drive, but he will fall short.

49ers vs Packers Prediction: Total
The 49ers defense possesses enough talent to slow down the Packers offense. The Packers defense will force some opportune turnovers to help keep points off of the board. While a big-hitting special teams touchdown will not help the cause, I still expect the under to hit in this one.

The 49ers offense showed they have little gusto against an average NFL defense last week against the Eagles. The Packers offense will not quite click on all cylinders as they did much of the game against what projects to be the NFL’s worst defense in the Detroit Lions. This will be a scrappier game than what most expect, helping to limit the total to just 45 points.

Deebo Samuel to score a rushing TD is the prop I love most. He is one of San Francisco’s most dynamic playmakers. With the running back room running on fumes, expect Kyle Shanahan to get creative in the Redzone trying to get the ball in the hands of one of his best playmakers.
Robert Tonyan under 40 yards receiving is another prop I like. The 49ers defense will almost entirely eliminate his presence, so look to guys like Allen Lazard to pick up the slack from Tonyan’s rough night.
