Nevada vs UNLV Prediction & College Football Odds for Week 9

by Nick TobinOctober 27, 2021
  • Winless UNLV lost 27-20 last week to San Jose State.
  • Nevada lost 34-32 at Fresno State last week.
  • Nevada defeated UNLV 37-19 last season.

Nevada, and projected first round quarterback Carson Strong host winless UNLV on Friday night. Friday is a golden opportunity for Nevada to make up for a heartbreaking loss on the road last week to Fresno State.

Strong is coming off of one of his best games as a collegiate player, throwing for 476 yards and 4 touchdowns. A failed two-point conversion in the last seconds put a damper on the performance and handed the Wolfpack their second loss of the season.

UNLV has been one of the worst teams in college football this season, but have had some better performances recently. The Runnin’ Rebels have yet to lose a conference game by more than 8 points, but do not have a win on the season.

Nevada vs UNLV Prediction: Spread

UNLV does not do anything well. They rank outside of the top 100 in offense and defense, while Nevada is middle of the pack in both categories.

As of Wednesday, the public has leaned heavily towards UNLV and the points, but the number has slowly gone the other direction.

Although UNLV has had some close results, the metrics hate them. UNLV is one of the worst teams in college football, and it is hard to bet on a terrible team in a short week on the road.

I like Nevada at anything under 21. The Wolfpack needs to bounce back in a big way, and what better team to do it against than poor old UNLV.

Nevada vs UNLV Prediction: Total

Heavy public action on this total is on the under. With Nevada as a 20 point favorite, you have to get about 21 out of UNLV to feel comfortable hitting this over.

The Runnin’ Rebels have gone over our magic number of 21 only three times this season. In conjunction with the play on Nevada, I think this under is the correct play.

In order for the Wolfpack to cover the number, they need a poor performance out of the UNLV offense. I expect UNLV to struggle on both sides of the ball in this spot on a short week on the road.

Take the under.
