Nebraska vs Purdue Prediction & College Football Odds for Week 9

by Ryan BurksOctober 30, 2021
  • Expect a tight contest between a pair of desperate Big Ten Conference teams
  • Nebraska survives to pick up an important victory at home
  • Defenses control the tempo as the offenses struggle to get going.

The Big Ten West Division has been extremely competitive this season, and the title race is still wide open. The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Purdue Boilermakers meet up on Saturday in a game that will shake up the standings.

Nebraska comes into this game with a 1-4 record in Big Ten action and they are just 3-5 overall. The Cornhuskers were expected to be better this season, but they continue to struggle in close games.

Purdue is 4-3 overall, and 2-2 so far in conference play to remain in the title conversation. The Boilermakers have the biggest win of the year in the league, a 24-7 win over then number two-ranked Iowa.

Betting Odds & Lines for This Game

Nebraska vs Purdue Prediction: Spread

Both of these teams have been inconsistent this season and that makes this game hard to handicap. Nebraska has been the better offensive team in this matchup, but Purdue can really defend.

This has all the makings of a game that will go back-and-forth and it could come down to the fourth quarter. Playing at home will give the Cornhuskers a pretty sizeable advantage, but they haven’t been able to put teams away.

The best bet to make on Saturday afternoon is to take the 7.5 points and bet on Purdue to keep things close against Nebraska.

Nebraska vs Purdue Prediction: MoneyLine

Even though Nebraska is more than a touchdown favorite in this game, there is still some value in betting them on the moneyline. Purdue does come into this game with the better overall record, but the eye test might lend you to believe that Nebraska is better.

The rushing attack of Nebraska is hard to ignore, and they are tough to beat when quarterback Adrian Martinez is playing well. Purdue’s win over Iowa was extremely impressive, but then they were pretty bad a week ago.

Since this game is being played in Lincoln, taking the Cornhuskers is the right way to go on the moneyline.

  • Free Prediction: Nebraska -300

Nebraska vs Purdue Prediction: Total

These two teams have combined to score just 52 points per game this season, and that immediately makes this over/under total feel off. Throw in the fact that each team is allowing less than 20 points per game and the line feels even more wrong.

Nebraska is going to run the football a ton, and that will create some long drives to kill the clock. Purdue does most of its damage through the air, but the Nebraska defensive front will have something to say about that.

24 points might be enough to win this game, and that means that the total is going to be less than 50. This feels like a pretty safe play in betting under 53.5 total points.
