Iowa vs Maryland Prediction & College Football Odds for Week 5

by Devin WeberSeptember 30, 2021
  • Iowa will win the game
  • Iowa will cover the spread
  • The game will be over the total final points

Both teams are coming into this game with a 4-0 record, and both are scoring a lot of points. Iowa is on the brink of a college football playoff spot, being ranked 5th in the AP and coaches polls. Maryland is not ranked in the top 25.

For Iowa, this will be a great chance to show the country that they are a playoff contender. Maryland if they win they will definitely move up in the Big 10 and move into the top 25. This could be a great game, and let’s discuss it.

Iowa vs Maryland Prediction: Spread

Iowa and Maryland both have high-powered offenses and pretty good defense. For being a top-five team and an unranked team, we predict it to be close. Pointsbet surprisingly has this game spread at 3.5 (Iowa). Iowa will cover the spread, but it won’t be by a whole lot.

This game will be surprisingly close, and Iowa will win by 7-10 points. Maryland might have trouble against the ball-hawking defense of Iowa. Maryland has not played a team like Iowa all year, so Iowa should be able to win (same goes for Iowa).

Iowa vs Maryland Prediction: Moneyline

For two teams being so closely ranked in the statistical category, it might seem like Maryland could win. However, when you learn they’ve had a relevantly easy category it’s easy to see why Iowa is favored. Iowa is the better team but has also played weak teams so far.

Both teams have had one game where they didn’t play a team with a losing record, and both have one impressive win. Iowa’s is to Indiana and Maryland is to West Virginia. For both teams, this will be a game to prove their programs this season.

It will be a tough battle, but Iowa will win, because of the better offense and defense (in both cases barely better). Both teams must keep the ball safe, or they will probably lose. Iowa can’t be looking forward to Penn State, they have to focus on Maryland or they could fall in a trap.

Iowa vs Maryland Prediction: Total Points

Pointsbet has the total points being 47.5, and this game’s final score will be over. The final score will be Iowa 31 to Maryland 24. Iowa’s defense will hold enough to get the win. However, this game could also be a defensive battle.

Both teams are giving up less than 15 points per game. However, with playing good teams both defenses gave up more than 20 points. It won’t be a shootout, but there will be enough offense to show later on the highlights.

Prop Prediction:

Iowa’s quarterback Spencer Petras will have a decent day with two touchdowns and around 275 yards. He will also have one pick that will result in a Maryland touchdown. The rest of the scores will be Tyler Goodsen and their kicker.

Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland quarterback) will not play as well because of Iowa’s defense. He has one passing touchdown with over 300 yards with a pick. Tayon Fleet-Davis scored the other two touchdowns and had about 100 yards on the day.

Bet the Prop

At we have a couple of interesting props we can beat on. We’ll beat that neither team won’t score over 40 points (because of the defense’s). Also, Iowa will have the longest touchdown and it will be over 54 yards.

Maryland will not score on their first drive, and also won’t score 40 or above points. Lastly, neither team will score three straight touchdowns.
