Arizona Wildcats Preview: Desert Cold
AU coach Jedd Fisch worked as the quarterbacks’ coach for the Patriots under Bill Belichick during the 2020 season. He becomes the fifth different head coach at the University of Arizona in the past two decades. Don’t let the Belichick disciple fool you though, he’s had 12 different jobs between the college and pro level in the past 20 seasons. Arizona has a decent offensive line and a couple of solid receivers set to return, but they were statistically one of the worst teams in the country on both sides of the ball last season. They finished last in the Pac 12 in scoring offense (17.4 points per game) and last in scoring defense (39.8 points given up per game). The Wildcats went 0-5 in a truncated 2020 season and have a current 12 game losing streak dating back to the 2019 season.
Brigham Young Cougars Preview: The Aerial Replacement
BYU replaced former star quarterback Zach Wilson, who was selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. The torch has now been passed to third-year sophomore Jalen Hall. Hall appeared in 5 prior games in the past two years, with two starts, throwing for 2 touchdowns, and rushing for two more. With Wilson gone, returning running back Lopini Katoa, a pass-catcher out of the backfield, should be the focus of the offense. The defense was solid last year but I question that entering 2021, having had to replace three starters lost to graduation on the defensive line.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for this College Football Game
I think BYU will cover the spread in this game. Head coach Kalani Sitake is in his 5th year with the Cougars and has more than enough confidence going up against a first year coach in Arizona’s Jedd Fisch, who has lacked stability in his coaching career. Match that with a program that was one of the worst statistically in multiple categories a year ago and it spells doom for the Wildcats. BYU has a very strong backfield that can wear down an unproven defense in its first game this season. And it will do just that. Arizona added a few good defensive players from the transfer portal that will keep the score from getting out of hand, but they will still lose by at least two touchdowns.
