Broncos vs Knights Prediction & College Football Odds for Week 1

by Vincent PensabeneSeptember 1, 2021

What does our Broncos vs Knights prediction have in store? Find out by reading our in-depth analysis!

  • UCF QB Dillon Gabriel throws for 300+ yards
  • Boise State WR Khalil Shakir finds the endzone
  • Not as many points as you think

The Boise State Broncos will travel to the Bounce House on Thursday night to take on the UCF Knights to kick off the regular season. The Broncos went 5-2 (5-0) last season while the Knights went 6-4 (5-3) and lost in the Boca Raton Bow to BYU 49-23.

The play of Dillon Gabriel seems to be effective as he has one of the most electric arms in college football. Khalil Shakir had six touchdowns last season and was the biggest red zone option for the Broncos. We will touch on the points thing in the total but these teams are not going to hit their 2020 season averages.

Broncos vs Knights Prediction: Spread

To be completely honest, this spread confuses me. The UCF offense seems to be a completely better offense than what Boise State has been able to do. The Knights averaged 42.2 points per game last season while the Broncos finished with 33.9 points per game.

Boise State has a more run-heavy offense, meaning that they can get stood up while UCF dominates through the air and that means this experienced Boise State secondary is going to get exposed. I think this is a multiple-possession game so go with the UCF Knights -5.5 here.

Broncos vs Knights Prediction: MoneyLine

The UCF Knights money line seems to be high and that should be a clear indication of where we should be betting here. The only issue we could see with this Knights offense is in the running game as each of their top-three rushers from a year ago are no longer members of the team. However, I think their system is easier to plug and play running backs than others.

The Boise State Broncos are a good team, as their 2020 5-2 record indicates, but I am not ready to pull the trigger here. They have a decent defense but their offense is going to struggle to get points here on the road.

I’m not a big Hank Bachmeier fan as he is too inconsistent on big plays for my liking. All in all, go with the UCF Knights to cover the money line here as they will win their season opener at home.

Broncos vs Knights Prediction: Total

Having your starting quarterback return from 2020 is only going to help the offense get going. However, offense has more to do with timing and that can be a little bit of an issue.

With the total being as high as it is currently listed, needing to score more than a point per minute, that means teams can’t settle for field goals or have drives end in turnovers. This makes the over seem like a huge risk so go with Under 68.5 points in this game as it seems like a more likely outcome.
