Washington Wizards at Sacramento Kings Betting Preview

by USA WagerApril 14, 2021

My favorite game to target Wednesday night is between the Wizards and Kings, with action tipping off at 10 PM EST.

In come two of the worst defenses in the entire NBA and two teams that play a fast brand of basketball. To me, that’s a perfect storm to target an over and a couple of player props. Let’s dig into the matchup.

Washington Wizards

The 20-33 Wizards remarkably are just two games back from the tenth seed in the East. Seeds 7-10 will have play-in games to determine the final two playoff spots, so Washington remains in the mix.

Even so, there is no doubt that this is not a good team. The Wizards own the fifth-worst defense in the NBA, and their offense is a bottom-ten unit as well.

Perhaps this week is a turning point, as the Wizards toppled the Utah Jazz, the West’s top team, on Monday night. Bradley Beal is the bright spot for this team, and he led the way in the 125-121 upset win with 34 points.

On the season, Beal is averaging 31.0 points per game, shooting 22.5 shots per game. Russell Westbrook is next, with 21.7 a game. As you may guess, Westbrook does the majority of his damage inside.

Washington plays at the fourth-fastest pace in the NBA and scores the ninth most points in the paint.

The Wizards are 27-26 against the spread and 27-26 against over/unders.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings are 22-32 and near the bottom of a loaded Western Conference, they are likely playing for the lottery at this point.

Sacramento is one of my favorite teams to follow for game and prop picks because they own the worst defense in the entire NBA.

Add in a top-ten offense and a top-ten pace and one can expect plenty of points every time the Kings hit the floor.

Sacramento has lost seven straight games, most recently 117-110 to New Orleans on Monday night.

Point guard De’Aaron Fox had a monster game, finishing with 43 points on 50% shooting. Fox is the leading scorer on the season for this Kings team, averaging 25.0 per game.

Buddy Hield shoots over ten threes per game, averaging 16.5 points. Hield missed Monday’s contest with an undisclosed illness – if he suits up, he is a target for props and daily fantasy lineups.

On the season, the Kings are 23-31 against the spread and 30-24 against over/unders.

Favorite Bets of the Night

The clear bet of the night is to take the over on Wednesday. It’s going to be high, but both defenses struggle and have offenses that prefer to play fast.

It’s shaping up to be an ugly game without much defense. Games like these with a high projected point total are great opportunities to load up on a couple of player props.

As we touched on above, both Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook shoot the ball plenty, and they both prefer to drive to the hoop. No team allows more points in the paint than the Kings this season.

Player prop picks:

  • Beal over
  • Westbrook over

There’s no reason to limit yourself to just the Washington offense in this one, as Sacramento actually owns an efficient offense that scores plenty of points.

Fox is the clear target here, but keep an eye on Hield’s health leading up to the game. The Washington defense is far more susceptible from deep, the fifth-most generous defense to the three-point shot.

If Buddy Hield plays, he shoot be set for a good game. While Fox prefers to play near the rim, he did shoot 11 threes on Monday night with Hield out of the lineup.

Player prop picks:

  • Fox over
  • Hield over
