Lakers vs Warriors Prediction

by Asa AgnoliMarch 16, 2021

Lakers vs Warriors Prediction: The LA Lakers will be traveling to the Chase Center to take on the Golden State Warriors for an exciting matchup. After a much-needed win against the Utah Jazz on Sunday, the Warriors are hungry to take down the defending champions.

In the Warrior’s last match up Stephen Curry led the team with 32 points making 6 of 9 shots beyond the arc. That win broke their four-game losing streak at the perfect time as they will now face a Lakers team that has recently been plagued by injury and illnesses.

The Lakers are missing a handful of players for Sunday’s matchup. Anthony Davis, Alex Caruso, Marc Gasol, Jared Dudley, and Kostas Antetokounmpo will all be missing the game. This leaves the Lakers bench very limited against the Warriors, giving them a better chance to win.

A Look at the Lakers

The Lakers won their last match against the Pacers (17-20) in a hard-fought battle. Kyle Kuzma led the Lakers in their fourth-quarter rally after the team struggled in the first three quarters. The Lakers currently post a defensive rating of 106.0 this season, but since February 16, when Davis missed his first game, their defensive rating is 108.3, putting them in 5th place.

The Lakers have lost seven of their last eleven games, and they need to find a spark when they face the warriors Sunday. The Lakers cannot give up turnovers, and they need to guard 3 point shooters tight.

The team will be looking for Lebron to step up in this matchup and produce a win for his team. Since Anthony’s absence, Lebron has not exceeded his season averages even though they are missing many players.

Lebron’s scoring average went up only 0.4 (26), but his rebounds (7.6) and assists (7.4) when down slightly from his season averages. He is still putting up great numbers, but he needs to produce more for his team that is missing key players. We will see if Lebron decides to find that spark this matchup and lead his team to victory.

Lakers Projected Lineup
Dennis Schroder (G), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (G), Lebron James (F), Markieff Morris (F), Damian Jones (C).

A Look at the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors will be entering this matchup after one of their best wins this season. The Warriors beat the league-leading Utah Jazz 131-119, which was much needed after their streak of losses.

The Warriors are ninth in the Western Conference and are still looking for that playoff spot. The play-in tournament gives them a chance to make the playoffs, but the Warriors would prefer to not complicate their season.

Golden State hopes to have a healthy team and have every player on the roster at their disposal for the second half of the NBA season. They should have an advantage playing at home and need to come out swinging from the opening tip.

Stephen Curry has had to deal with new teammates, and the adjustment has not been easy for the team. Curry has been doing all he can to keep the Warriors in the hunt.

Curry averaged 37.3 points per game over a six-game stretch in February, but the Warriors only won half of those games. The Warriors need to find a balance between Curry’s points and the rest of the teams to be more consistent in wins.

Warriors Projected Lineup
Stephen Curry (G), Kelly Oubre Jr. (G), Andrew Wiggins (F), Draymond Green (F), Kevon Looney (C).

Match Prediction

Both teams have beat each other once this season. The Lakers moneyline is -140, and the spread is -2.5 (-110). The Warriors are +115, and the spread is +2.5 (-110). The Over/Under is set 223.5.

The Warriors are a healthy team at home playing against a banged-up Lakers, so I would take the Golden State +2.5 since the Lakers are 3-6 straight up in their last nine games.
