Hawks Begin to Struggle

In the spam from March 2nd until March 20th, the Atlanta Hawks went on a hot streak winning 8 consecutive matchups. How much does that really mean if only 1 out of the 8 wins came against a team with a winning record? Especially, if that one win came against a heavily injured and Lebronless Lakers team.

In the past 5 games, it’s become a bit more clear as to what kind of team the Hawks are. Clearly, they enjoy competing against lower tier teams as that’s where they have their success, but when it comes time to go up against higher caliber teams they tend to fall behind fast and fail to keep it close.

Hawks Last 5 Games:

  • 3/22 119-110 Loss vs Clippers (32-17)
  • 3/24 110-108 Loss vs Kings (22-26)
  • 3/26 124-108 Win vs Warriors (23-24)
  • 3/28 126-102 Loss vs Nuggets (29-18)
  • 3/30 117-110 Loss vs Suns (33-14)

Now, we must take this information and apply it to the Pelicans. Where do the Pelicans fall when determining if they are on the end of high caliber teams or low tier teams? My answer is on the side of higher caliber teams so be prepared for them to control the game against the Hawks Friday night.

Pelicans Heating up

The Pelicans are quietly rising in the highly competitive Western Conference. I don’t anticipate a playoff run, but it could set up for a hot start for the 2021-22 NBA season. It seems that they have begun to find their rhythm with Zion Williamson settling into the league and becoming more comfortable.

Within the past 5 games, the Pelicans have faced some tough matchups with going up against teams that all hold a spot in the playoffs if the season were to come to a close today.

Pelicans Last 5 Games:

  • 3/21 113-108 Win vs Nuggets (29-18)
  • 3/23 128-111 Win vs Lakers (30-18)
  • 3/26 113-108 Loss vs Nuggets
  • 3/27 112-103 Win vs Mavericks (25-21)
  • 3/29 115-109 Win vs Celtics (23-25)

Former #1 overall pick in the NBA draft, Zion Williamson is starting to show the world why he was selected first overall by showcasing his impressive talents night after night. He is 8th in the league in points per game by averaging 26.4 points to this point in the season. The past 5 games, he’s averaging a mindblowing 32.4 points in just his 2nd season in the league.

I anticipate that the Pelicans keep things going when they tip off against the Hawks on Friday evening. Prepare for them to control the pace of play and beat the Hawks in the paint to grind out the win.

Free Pick: Pelicans ML (-121)

Good luck!
