The Daytona 500 is scheduled to run on Valentine’s Day this year, Sunday, February, 14th at 2:30 pm.  This race is called the Great American race and this year marks its 63rd year. Daytona is the biggest and some would say the most important race in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Yet, it is the first race to run so it is hard to know at this point who will win. At this point, the driver’s aren’t “in form.” So, while there is a lot of speculation, it is hard to know who has the best car for each team or who is running well.

The fun part of betting this first race of the year is that there are so many unknowns that keep the odds long. Bettors can score a big payday because anyone can win the race.

Daytona 500 Odds –

Hamlin Not Slowing Down

Odds begin at +800 for Denny Hamlin, the favorite this year to win. Even though the race is highly unpredictable, oftentimes it is one of the top drivers that will take the checkered flag.

Daytona is one of the fastest tracks in the country and Denny Hamlin shows no signs of slowing down. This is his favorite track. He won this race for the last two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020 and has won it overall 3 times.

He has the most success at the Daytona 500, more than any other defending race champion. But, can he win 3 times in a row? If you are unsure that 3x is a charm to win, you can place a top 3 bet at +225. He is definitely a top contender!

After Denny Hamlin, the odds on the players vary at some of the sportsbooks. Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, and Ryan Blaney are generally at the top of the odds sheets.

Further Down the List

They range from +900 to +1200 and for picks for the top 3 from +275 to +350. Last year Ryan Blaney finished 2nd however he crashed in 2019. He loves the track at Daytona because it’s wide and full-on for speed. Chase Elliot is the 25-year-old son of Hall of Fame winner, Bill Elliot.

He is considered a rising star and won the Monster Energy Cup at the end of last year.  He may be in it to win it.  Joey Logano has started in the top 10 in 7 of his last 8 races yet his average finish in those races is 20. Could this be his year?  He does have one Daytona 500 win.

MJ and Bubba: The Longshot

If you are looking to bet a real longshot Bubba Wallace shows up at +1800 with + 500 for top 3 and Alex Bowman is +2000 and +600 for top 3.

Bubba has 36 starts at the Nascar Cup series but has never won. Some are questioning how Bubba Wallace has lower odds than Alex Bowman who has actually had multiple cup series wins. Is that a sign that Bubba might have some juice this year?

Hopefully, now that the NFL has left Sundays to NASCAR you will be able to settle down, with your Valentine, bet long, and show your honey the money.
