Weekend Boxing Predictions: Jake Paul (-227) vs Tyron Woodley (+162) – (Cruiserweight)

Jake Paul

3-0,3 KOs

Tyron Woodley

Pro Boxing Debut

Born: January, 17,1997 (24)

Jake Paul will take the next step in his controversial but exciting boxing career by taking on former MMA champion and UFC Hall of Famer Tyron Woodley. Jake is 3-0 coming into this fight with knockout victories over AnEsonGib (Youtuber), Nate Robinson (NBA), and Ben Askren (MMA). Woodley will be the best striker Jake has faced and is a true threat to put a halt to the hype train.

This may be Woodley’s pro boxing debut but he is a veteran of combat sports with an MMA record of 27-7-1, 7 of the wins coming via knockout. After being the king of the welterweight division his career came crashing down with 4 consecutive losses (Usman, Burns, Covington, Luque).

This fight came to fruition after Jake and Tyron exchanged words backstage prior to the Askren fight, with Woodley being in Askren’s corner. This will be the first fight for Jake on his new multi-fight deal with Showtime, a win here sets up fights with Tommy Fury, Mcgregor, Canelo??? Let’s not forget about the side bet made by both fighters, where the loser must get a tattoo proclaiming their love of the winning fighter. What a world we are living in!

Jake Paul comes in as the favorite (-277) which is a surprise to some, he is taking the sport seriously and continues to gain the respect of the fight community with his relentless training and execution on fight night.

USA Wager Prediction: I am team Jake for this fight, but I think it comes via a controversial Decision. This win sets up a fight with Tommy Fury for Jake’s first fight against a “real” boxer.

Amanda Serrano (-2500) v Yamileth Mercado (+800)

Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano is definitely the real deal when it comes to women’s boxing. Serrano, the seven-division world champion, looks to shine a light on women’s boxing on boxing’s biggest stage for 2021.

“It means a lot to womens’ boxing for me to be in this position, to be a person on this stage. We deserve to be in the spotlight. I’ll perform like I always do and represent women’s boxing the best way I know-how. I’m very excited that they chose me for this event.”

The challenger, Yamileth “Yeimi” Marcado looks to be in over her head in this contest anyway you look at it. The most decorated fighter she has faced to date is Fatuma Zarika (33-13,17 KO’s) who handed her a decision loss in 2018, Marcado avenged the loss in 2019 by decision win. In 2014/2015 Serrano defeated Zarika twice in only her third and forth pro fights.

USA Wager Prediction: Serrano is a complete boxer with all the technical skills matched with legit knockout power (71%). Serrano by KO.

Tommy Fury (-1677) vs. Anthony Taylor (+700)

An interesting bout on the card has the brother of the “Gypsy King” Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, Tommy Fury taking on MMA fighter, and Jake Paul sparring partner Anthony Taylor. Tommy Fury has enjoyed success outside of the ring as a UK reality TV star, and has put together a 6-0 record in the ring.

He has been linked to Jake Paul with call-outs coming from both camps. A win here on US soil could set the stage for that fight to take place next. A knock on Tommy has been the caliber of opponents he has faced, disappointingly we don’t see much of a bump in this aspect with Anthony Taylor. As an MMA fighter Taylor is 7-5 with only a single victory coming by knockout.

Taylor’s only boxing fight was back in 2017, a decision loss to Donte Stubbs, this was the boxing debut for both fighters at the time. Stubbs has gone 6-2 since that fight while Taylor has been inactive from boxing until this weekend.

Tommy will be the bigger man come fight night with a 5-inch height advantage and whopping 10-inch reach advantage. Taylor, who typically fights at 155lbs will move up to 180 for this fight and will be the smaller man based on all comparable attributes.

Tommy has shown he has a clean jab and patience which will pay him dividends in this fight as his reach and jab can keep Taylor’s haymaker attempts at bay,

USA Wager Prediction: Tommy Fury by Decision. Setting up Fury vs Paul in 2022.
