In an East Coast meets West coast battle, the Philadelphia 76ers are traveling up to Portland to face Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers. Philadelphia comes in off a 119-111 road win over Sacramento in their last game Tuesday night. Portland knocked off Orlando 106-97 at home in their previous contest Tuesday night. 

Prior Results to Tonight’s 76ers- Blazers Meeting

This is the second time the two teams have met this season. The Trailblazers stunned the 76ers in a February 4th matchup. The Blazers won in a 121-105 rout last Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center despite having six players out with various injuries and COVID restrictions. Portland (13-10) played without All-Star point guard Damian Lillard, shooting guard CJ McCollum, center Jusuf Nurkic, Derrick Jones Jr., Nassir Little, and Zach Collins. 

The Philadelphia 76ers won their second straight and sixth in the last seven games as they handled Sacramento on the road Tuesday night. The 76ers entered Wednesday’s game with an 18-7 record, giving them a 4.5-game advantage over the Nets in the Atlantic Division. In the Eastern Conference playoff picture, the 76ers own the top spot by 1.5 games over the Bucks. 

Against the Kings, the Philadelphia 76ers jumped out to a 10 point lead after the opening quarter, only to trail by five at the half and by four after three quarters. The 76ers came back in the final quarter, going on an 8-0 run to break a 99-99 tie. Philadelphia didn’t let Sacramento come closer than five points the rest of the way. 

The 76ers shot 48.2% from the field, nine of 20 from three-point range, and controlled the rebounds by a 59-39 margin. Joel Embiid led the team with 25 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists in the win. On the year, the 76ers have looked like a more complete team than years prior. Embiid looks smoother and more athletic.

On the year, Philadelphia ranks 8th in the league in scoring offense averaging 114.3 PPG this season. The 76ers are seventh in rebounding, collecting 46.1 boards per game while they stand 22nd in assists with 23.6 dimes a night. Philadelphia is contending for top defense as they are 8th in the league by allowing 110.2 points per game. 

Joel Embiid leads the team with 29.1 PPG and 11 RBS this season. Tobias Harris contributes 20.3 PPG, 7.5 RBS, while Seth Curry adds 12.7 PPG. Ben Simmons is having a down year in terms of scoring with 13.5 PPG, 8.2 RBS, 8 AST.

Portland Continues To Find Success

Portland was successful in a home win over Orlando. This was their third win out of the last four games. The Trail Blazers have earned a 13-10 record and stand second in the Northwest Division; this lands them six games behind the Jazz. In a crowded Western Conference playoff picture, Portland stands fifth entering Wednesday, 1.5 games ahead of ninth-place Sacramento. 

In their game against Orlando, Portland jumped to a 12-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Trail Blazers didn’t let Orlando get closer than seven points over the final three quarters en route to the win. Portland shot 38.9% from the field, 18 of 46 from three-point range, and held Orlando to 42% shooting in the game. Damian Lillard was fantastic as always for the Trail Blazers, with 36 points in the victory.

The Trail Blazers come into this game 6th in the league in scoring with 114.5 points per game. The Trail Blazers are 13th in the league in rebounding; they get 44.5 rebounds a night. Portland relies on a lot of isolation and matchups, they are 3oth in the league in assists. The Trail Blazers are at the bottom in the league by allowing 115.3 points a night, placing them 25th. 

Damian Lillard is the focal point of the team with 29.4 PPG, 7.1 AST. CJ McCollum is next up with 26.7 PPG while Gary Trent Jr. puts up 14 points per contest. Carmelo Anthony is having a nice season and has found his role putting up 12.5 PPG and 3.5 RBS. Enes Kanter is contributing 11.2 PPG, 10.9 RBS, Jusuf Nurkic, Derrick Jones Jr., Robert Covington, Anfernee Simons, Rodney Hood, and Harry Giles III all have to step up and contribute for the Trail Blazers.
