PLL End of Regular Season Championship Odds
The Premier Lacrosse League regular season has come to an end, and the bracket has finally shaped up. With a freshly crafted trophy and teams driven to find success at the highest level, the Lacrosse world is ready to tune in and watch the PLL playoffs.
With the Snakes’ PLL first-round bye and the Cannons getting knocked out of playoff contention, the odds are shaping up to be quite interesting. The PLL odds differentiate from the actual team standings, with some interesting takes and thought-provoking numbers. As we jump into the first week of playoff Lacrosse, the odds have changed and there’s a lot to take in.
The Odds
The Championship odds before the quarterfinals in Foxborough look like this:
1. Whipsnakes (+150)
2. Archers (+450)
3. Atlas (+550)
4. Chrome (+550)
5. Waterdogs (+800)
6. Redwoods (+1000)
7. Chaos (+1600)
The Whipsnakes have a clear advantage due to the first-round bye they possess. Along with this, seeing the Chaos on the bottom is not surprising due to their poor regular season performance with only 2 wins on the season.
What really catches the eyes is the second, third, and fourth seeds. They’re all grouped together, bunched incredibly closely. However, the Archers are actually sitting behind the Chrome in the power rankings, and have an arguably more difficult matchup during the quarterfinals.
Matchups
Of the teams without a PLL first-round bye, the Chrome seems to have the easiest path to the championship. Their first-round matchup is against the worst team in the playoffs, and their second-round game (barring a loss) would be against the winner of the Archers vs Redwoods match. The last time the Chrome and Archers battled, the Chrome came out on top.
Another great matchup at Gillette Stadium is the Atlas and Waterdogs. Sure, the winner has to beat the single-season wins record holder, but the game itself peaks my interest. Just a few weeks ago, the Waterdogs came out on top in an overtime thriller. With Kieran McArdle heating up and the Atlas on a bit of a wind down towards the end of the season, the 5th team in betting odds may be in position for an upset. The Dogs have gone 5-1 in their last 6 games, so seeing them make a playoff push is incredibly likely.
Final Thoughts
The PLL championship odds heavily differentiate from the actual power rankings. However, I can see the reasoning behind each one of them. The Archers have the most powerful offense in the league, putting them in prime position for a playoff run, and the Atlas vs Chrome debate is always almost completely even.
The Waterdogs may be ranked far under the previous teams, but they are in a prime position for a push. The +800 odds for them are definitely worth a look, especially since last year the winner of the PLL championship went 4-5. There’s clearly room for success from the top to the bottom of the bracket, and we can expect some incredible games on the way there.
