Butler vs Valpo Prediction

by Corey GheeMarch 26, 2021

Butler vs Valpo Prediction: The Butler Bulldogs will look for their first win of the season when they travel and take on the Valparaiso Brown and Gold.

Head to Head

Butler and Valparaiso have played each other in football every year since 1951. The two schools have met 78 times, with Butler currently holding a 51–27 edge in the all time series.

Butler Bulldogs

Butler (0-2) has gotten off to a slow start this spring. After losing to Valpo in Week 1, the Bulldogs dropped a road game to San Diego. Butler struggled on both sides of the ball, and they were outgained through the air and on the ground. They will look to find an offensive identity this week.

Quarterback Sam Brown returned after a solid 2019 campaign, and he’s struggled so far. Brown isn’t completing over 50% of his passes, and he’s only thrown for 352 yards and one touchdown.

Butler ran the ball well in the first matchup with Valpo. Running back, Kavon Samuels ran for 117 yards on 20 carries, and he added five catches out of the backfield. Pass catchers Yogi Flagler and Johnny O’Shea have been solid through two weeks. O’Shea leads the team with nine catches, while Flagler leads with 134 yards.

Valparaiso Brown and Gold

Valparaiso (1-1) had a rough week offensively against Drake. They were held just 80 yards on the ground, and they weren’t moving the chains on third down, as they went 5/19. They can pick up where they left off in Week 1 if they come out and lean on the run game early.

Senior quarterback Chris Duncan struggled last week. The third-year starter went 11-30 with two interceptions. His performance led to him being benched, but he will be under center for their rematch with Butler. He did a good job of managing the game and making timely throws in the victory over the Bulldogs, as he went 8/13 with two touchdown tosses.

ODU transfer Robert Washington had a terrific performance against Butler in Week 1. The junior handled most of the workload, and he churned out 199 yards and a touchdown. Valpo will look to get him going again, as they couldn’t do anything on the ground last weekend. Junior Ollie Reese leads the team in receptions (10) and yards (94). Seniors Deuce Larose and Holden Hodge both scored in the Week 1 victory over Butler.

Butler vs Valpo Prediction

As stagnant as Valpo’s offense was last weekend, Butler didn’t impress much themselves. Valparaiso should be able to get the ground game going with Robert Washington again and pick up the home victory and season sweep of Butler.

Prediction: Valparaiso to win
