NY Red Bulls vs Philadelphia Prediction

by Jack CohenJuly 7, 2021

The NY Red Bulls will host the Philadelphia Union in Red Bull Arena on Thursday, July 8 at 8:00 pm EST. The hosts are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 16 points, having just won their first road game 2-1 against a strong Orlando City team. The Philadelphia Union, on the other hand, are winless in their last two despite still holding a strong third place spot in the Eastern Conference with 19 points.

Earlier this year, the two teams met and Philadelphia took away three points in a 1-0 win. Another result like that would catapult the Union into the upper echelon of the MLS and set themselves back on a winning path. Any points here for the Red Bulls would help them separate from the pack of four teams that have 16 points. Stay tuned and read our NY Red Bulls vs Philadelphia prediction before placing any bets!

NY Red Bulls’ Ways to Win

Use their home-field advantage. The Red Bulls have won four straight at home, and despite conceding fourteen goals this season so far, only three of them have been in Red Bull Arena. Something must be clicking when the Red Bulls are in their own home arena surrounded by their fans. Continuing this trend is a must if they want to accelerate past the middle of the Eastern Conference table and enter the top five.

Play as a team. A great result against Orlando came out of the Red Bulls working in unison. Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, midfielder Sean Davis, and forward Patryk Klimala all made the MLS Team of the Week. If players in each third of the field play so well they get recognized with honors like those, the Red Bulls will be a unit. It is a sign that the Red Bulls are working together and in a league like the MLS, full team efforts are not so easy to come by. Another one against the Union would give them a great chance to win.

Philadelphia’s Ways to Win

Refocus. The Philadelphia Union are winless in their last two, but before that, they were on a 8-game unbeaten streak. They will be missing quite a few important players to either injury or international duties, but it’s their job to make it happen without them. They need to let their past stay in the past, both wins and losses alike, and face the game ahead of them without any preconceived notions.

Get composed on defense. There is no good excuse as to why one of the best defenses last season and one of the best defenses this season should give up three goals to the Chicago Fire—a team that had only scored four goals prior to their match against Philadelphia. Play it simple on defense; clear the ball when it gets dangerous; and help each other out. It’s simple. The Union know how to do it. They just need to execute.

NY Red Bulls vs Philadelphia Prediction

This one is going to be a really good match. Philadelphia have drifted away from their winning ways and are missing a few key players while the Red Bulls have been playing well and are at home where they always get the job done. This is going to be tight, but it’s going to be the game where the Red Bulls show the Eastern Conference they want to compete for the top. They win in a very tight game that goes back and forth.
