Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers Preview and Pick

by Ryan BurksJune 12, 2021

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in Milwaukee this weekend for a matchup with the first-place Brewers in the MLB. This should be a series that is absolutely dominated by the Milwaukee Brewers, and that was the case in the series opener.

Pittsburgh is going through another rebuilding season, but it’s starting to feel like this franchise doesn’t exactly have a plan. The Pirates are just 23-39 on the season, and they are headed for another last-place finish in the National League Central Division.

Milwaukee has been one of the hottest teams in baseball of late, and they sit in a first-place tie with the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers come into the game on Saturday with a record of 36-27, and they are starting to look like a legitimate title contender.

For the matchup on Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers are -240 on the money line over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pirates at Brewers Preview and Pick: Pirates Struggling in All Areas

Just taking a look at the overall stats for the Pirates this season will give you a good idea of just how much they have struggled. The Pirates rank near the bottom of the league in both pitching and hitting, and there isn’t much hope for those numbers to improve.

Chad Kuhl starts for Pittsburgh on Saturday, and he is still looking for his first victory of the season. Kuhl has gone just 0-3 with a 5.61 earned run average, and the Pirates don’t have much of a bullpen to be able to cover for a short start.

Adam Frazier continues to have a strong season at the plate for the Pirates, leading the team with a .329 batting average. Bryan Reynolds has 10 home runs and 30 RBIs, but he doesn’t get much help in the power department.

The Pirates do have a habit of playing well against some of their toughest opponents, but they don’t have the talent to keep up with the Brewers.

Pirates at Brewers Preview and Pick: Brewers Offense Picking Up

The Milwaukee Brewers are finally starting to get some offense, but they also just lost one of their top contributors. Travis Shaw will be out for a few months after dislocating his shoulder, and he has provided some power for Milwaukee.

Avisail Garcia has been the biggest bat in the lineup for Pittsburgh, leading the team with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs. Christian Yelich is also starting to swing a hot bat, and that has allowed Milwaukee to make a big jump in the NL Central standings.

The pitching staff has carried Milwaukee so far in 2021, and the Brewers will have one of their top pitchers on the mound on Saturday. Corbin Burnes might not have the best stats, but he continues to dominate opposing lineups.

Burnes has gone just 3-4 with a

Anything can happen in baseball, but there are some matchups that just feel like a sure thing. Pittsburgh trying to beat Milwaukee feels like a near-impossible task, especially when you take a close look at the pitching matchups.

The Brewers come into this game with a ton of momentum, and the Pirates enter Saturday playing some bad baseball. This is a game Milwaukee has to win, and they won’t be messing around in game two of the series.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates just isn’t a very smart play, especially when they are facing a pitcher like Corbin Burnes. Milwaukee is starting to hit the ball better as well, and it all should add up to a pretty convincing and dominating win for the Brewers.

Bet the Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 over the Pittsburgh Pirates in this matchup of NL Central Division teams.

Final Score:

Brewers 6
Pirates 2
